DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- The U.S. Census Count concludes Thursday following a decision by the U.S. Supreme court which allowed the Trump Administration to stop the count a month earlier than originally planned.

Sophia Johnson with the Dallas Census says her team is doing a final push to make sure everyone is accounted for.

“Because the impact lasts for 10 years, you want to have the most accurate count possible..especially in an area like Dallas County where we’ve had explosive growth,” said Jonhson.

She said they’re proud of what they’ve already been able to accomplish especially with limited time and during a pandemic when face to face events were canceled.

“This is going to be very surprising but  in 2010 we were lagging the rate by 9.4% and now we are lagging for 3.1% so we’e made up 6.3%,” she said.

Johnson said that difference means about $200 million a year.

“We are beating Harris County and Houston and so it’s a big deal to look at a peer and say ‘we’ve put in so much effort that we’ve really closed gaps’,” she said.

Johnson is urging everyone to make sure they’re accounted for because the more people counted means more money and more congressional seats.

“The Census is critical to Dallas. Be counted. It only takes a few minutes.” said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.
