Shooting at Large Outdoor Concert in Ferris, TX

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – One man is hospitalized following a shooting in Ferris early Sunday morning. Ellis County Patrol Deputies responded to a shooting on Risinger Road On Sunday, October 11, 2020 around 12:01a.m. Officials report that the call came in as a large gathering of people at an outdoor concert.

Deputies & medical personnel arrived on scene and found a man who had been shot once in his abdomen. The man was taken by Care Flite to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He is said to be in stable condition.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office said the property was contracted by the land owner to a music festival organization who hosted the event. There was reported to be approximately 2000-3000 people in attendance. It is unknown if attendees were wearing masks or practicing social distancing. Officials believe some sort of altercation led to someone firing “multiple rounds into a crowd of people.” Despite the number of shots fired, only one man was shot.

The shooter is described as a Hispanic adult male in his early twenties. The suspect is described as wearing blue jean pants and a black shirt. He was said to have a thin mustache with black hair. His hair was described as shaved on the sides with bowl type length on top.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population in Ferris in 2010 was only 2,436. Ferris is approximately 20 miles southeast of Dallas. Many in and outside the local community are asking why so many people were gathered together during a pandemic and whether attendees were wearing masks and practicing social distancing guidelines.  Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to contact the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
