
Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – A new University of Texas – Texas Tribune poll finds that Donald Trump leads Joe Biden by 5 points in Texas among likely registered voters; Trump garnered 50% of those polled to Joe Biden’s 45% in the race for president.
The latest survey was conducted during a period that included the first presidential debate and Trump’s hospitalization for COVID-19.
The Trump/Pence ticket had strong support from likely white voters, while while Biden/Harris are the favorites of female, black and Hispanic likely voters in Texas.
Independent voters in the lone star state favor Biden over Trump by 45 to 37%
Professor Daron Shaw at UTA served as co-director of the poll and says, “the race is a “marker for attitudes toward Trump.”
Shaw, a professor of government at the university made note of the constancy of those poll results since before Biden was the chosen Democratic candidate.
In a Texas Tribune article summarizing the poll numbers Shaw said, “What it really shows you is just how much of this is about Trump. The race is a marker for attitudes towards Trump. It really is a referendum.”
The University of Texas/Texas Tribune internet survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted from Sept. 25 to Oct. 4 and has an overall margin of error of +/- 2.83 percentage points.
