AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – A social media movement is shining a light on what’s being a called a dark undercurrent at Fort Hood.
Current and former soldiers of the Army based near Killeen have been posting accounts of sexual assault and harassment to social media in the wake of the disappearance and murder of Spc. Vanessa Guillen.
Guillen’s family said she was harassed by the officer who police said eventually killed her. They said she didn’t report the abuse due to fear of retaliation.
The victims are using the #IAMVANESSAGUILLEN to tell their stories and to highlight the need for change.

As NYU med students, we got training with this type of treachery via our own med skl Dean Lynn Buckvar-Keltz. @nyuniversity @NYUSOM_CHGG @nyulaw But for AD Soldiers, the treachery hurts more. #IAmVanessaGuillen #Epstein #TrumpHasCovid #freebritneyspears #TrumpIsANationalDisgrace https://t.co/wmEjTNGoBD

There’s currently a push to get the I Am Vanessa Guillen Act passed.
The bill aims to expand measures to prevent sexual assault and harassment within the U.S. military, including making sexual harassment a crime in military law and makes a move to prosecute sexual assault and harassment out of the chain of command.
So far 26 soldiers have died at Fort Hood, of various causes, this year. The military is investigation the situation at Fort Hood.
