DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — When the national anthem played at NFL stadiums across the country some teams stayed in the locker room while some players took a knee in protest of their perceptions of social injustice. Dontari Poe was the only Dallas Cowboy to do so.

The veteran defensive tackle has been one of the more vocal players on the Cowboys’ roster. While his teammates stood on the sideline beside him, many of them locking arms, Poe knelt for the playing of the anthem.

After the game he said he knew he might be the only Cowboys player to take part in the protest and said that was fine with him. The Dallas Morning News quotes Poe as saying, “My teammates were telling me that they didn’t want me to do it by myself alone because we’re a team, but I had told them my mind was already made up and I felt this way. And if they didn’t, don’t do it. Don’t do it unless your heart is there like mine was. I appreciate my guys for sticking with me for being behind me.”

Poe said he wasn’t at all disappointed that his teammates didn’t join him on one knee. He was disappointed, however, by the outcome of the game. The Rams beat the Cowboys 27-17 in smoky Southern California.
