Austin (AP) – Texas health officials report at least 3,488 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and the deaths of 144 more people the virus sickened. The Texas Department of State Health Services said Friday that at least 653,356 coronavirus cases have been reported since early March, as well as almost 14,000 COVID-19 deaths. The true number of cases in Texas is likely higher because many people haven’t been tested and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick. Health officials estimated 71,292 cases are now active, 3,475 of them requiring hospitalization
