Reunion Tower in Dallas to Have Special Light Show Tonight to Honor Hunger Action Day

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – In Honor of Hunger Action Day, the Reunion Tower of Dallas will host a special light show Thursday night.

The show is in partnership with the North Texas Food Bank and is part of a nationwide effort to increase the battle against hunger.

The infamous revolving ball will display an orange hue in honor of the event.

September is Hunger Action Month and presents a deeper meaning this year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before the pandemic hit, food insecurity was already a longstanding struggle for communities nationwide.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture about 11% of American households dealt with hunger and that percentage is slightly higher in North Texas.

The North Texas Food Bank said over the past few months, it has seen an overwhelming number of first time recipients whose family’s finances were crushed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The food bank said in June, it distributed 75% more food and went from serving 200 families to more than 2,000 at its mobile distribution sites.
