DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — When the Dallas Cowboys take the sideline at the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, Sunday evening you can expect some of them to take a knee.
The Dallas Morning News quotes Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, speaking on the PFTPM Podcast Tuesday: “I think we’re going to have guys kneeling, we’re going to have guys standing, and the biggest thing is we’re all supporting each other,” Elliott said. “That’s what’s going to bring us all together. I think everyone in the locker room feel that we’re going to get support from ownership, coaching staff and from each other. I think everyone is going to feel free to express themselves however they choose to.”
Team owner Jerry Jones hasn’t changed his desire that players to stand at attention during the playing of the National Anthem but he seems to be resigned to the reality and serious nature of the social issues that have changed perspectives in recent months. He says he hopes fans will accept the personal gestures by players with “grace”.
Speaking Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said, “I would expect the Cowboys show great sensitivity and I hope fans will receive it. However each individual presents it, that it’s a genuine ask for help because right now in our society, we got some things we need to address.”
Jones admits he doesn’t like hearing about fans who threaten to boycott the NFL over what they consider to be unpatriotic protests. He said the Cowboys hold the biggest stage and brightest spotlight in the NFL. He’s a businessman and doesn’t like his team doing anything that might put a sour taste in the mouths of Cowboys fans.
The Cowboys open the season Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams in Southern California.
