DALTON, Ga. (WBAP/KLIF News) – Authorities in Georgia have captured one of two Texas men accused in the shooting of a deputy in Whitfield County overnight.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 47-year-old Johnathan Hosmer is in custody and 29-year-old Dalton Potter is still at large.

GBI said the shooting occurred when Deputy Darrell Hackney pulled over Potter in Dalton, who was allegedly driving a stolen trailer.

Investigators said Potter fired several rounds at Hackney from inside his car during the stop.

GBI said although Hackney was hit, his ballistic vest saved him from serious injury.

After the shooting, Potter drove south on i-75 before crashing the truck and taking off on foot into the woods.
