AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas drivers will notice gas prices ahead of the Labor Day weekend are extremely kind on their wallets.
According to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide gas price average in Texas is $1.91 for a gallon of regular unleaded. That’s one cent less than this time last week and 37 cents less per gallon that this time last year.
“Texas pump prices are setting up to be the cheapest for a gallon of regular unleaded on Labor Day since 2004,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster.
Analysts credit the COVID-19 pandemic on the current state of gas prices.
“This shows just how much of an impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on fuel prices, even after a major hurricane interrupted refinery operations in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Armbruster.
Across DFW, Dallas County residents are paying around $1.96 per gallon of regular unleaded and Tarrant County residents are close behind at $1.94.
Statewide, Odessa residents are paying the most at $2.13 while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $1.81 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
According to gasprices.aaa.com, Texans are paying some of the cheapest prices at the pump, ranking second lowest in the country.
