DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The removal of electric scooters from Dallas streets is bringing confusion to City Hall.
The Dallas Transportation department recently made the decision to suspend the city’s scooter program which the city council voted earlier this year to continue. The move comes after complaints of late night joy rides impacting public safety in Deep Ellum. But, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said this week that he wasn’t involved in the ruling.
“I wasn’t briefed,” he said.
According to the Mayor, the city council wasn’t involved in the decision either, causing him to question the legality of the removal.
I was surprised by this decision. I found out about it when you all did, and I don’t understand how the City can essentially suspend an ordinance without City Council action.
We should discuss it ASAP. We may reach the same conclusion, but we voted in March to keep scooters. https://t.co/hX0v8n10A4

“It’s not entirely clear to me whether or not it is actually legally permissible to suspend a program that a legislative body just voted a few months ago to implement,” the Mayor said.
Per order from the city transportation department, the scooters must be off the Dallas streets before the end of the work day Friday.
