DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Trials are progressing and the FDA is working very closely with manufacturers to develop a COVID-19 vaccine.

Stephen Hahn, Commissioner of the FDA says they are in phase 3 of the trials. Once completed, the FDA will assess the data and make a decision on if it’s safe enough to be released to the public.

“We have 17,000+ scientists, doctors, nurses…just incredible expertise, and I have complete confidence they are going to make the best decision for the American people,” said Hahn.

He ensures the FDA is going to use rigorous standards to assess the vaccine.

“Our weapon here is to make sure the American people know we are working on their behalf, we are not going to cut any corners and we are going to do the right thing for them,” he said.

Hahn said once the data is available, they are going to expedite the review to make sure it gets out as soon as possible. “Everyone wants a vaccine as quickly as possible and we don’t want the delay to be on our side of things but with respect to when those trials end, it will be up to  the manufacturers of the vaccines because they are the ones performing the clinical trial,” he said.
