Desoto ISD Superintendent Resigns

DESOTO (WBAP/KLIF)- The DeSoto ISD Superintendent D’Andre Weaver has resigned. This happened in an emergency meeting called yesterday where the school board voted 4-3 to accept his voluntary resignation.

The specially-called meeting comes after the TEA accused the district of fraud and mismanaged funds, from findings in an audit. However, Weaver said this was for instances before he was hired and since the period of time the TEA audited, the district’s fund balance went from in the red to $7 million the district improved its financial rating from an ‘F’ to a ‘C’ since then.

The TEA did recommend the district to appoint Dr. Don Hooper to oversee the school board and he is now serving as acting superintendent.

Weaver ended the meeting thanking the school board for the opportunity to serve the district, and wished them well.

“As a Board, we understand your concerns regarding the recent news that we accepted the voluntary resignation of Dr. D’Andre J. Weaver as superintendent of DeSoto ISD. Please know that, as a Board, we are committed to working with administration to ensure that teachers are prepared and ready to lead virtual instruction and that students have the support and resources needed to thrive this school year.
It is our goal to move away from the distraction of adult issues and reposition our collective focus back on meeting the needs of our students, teachers, families, and community,” DeSoto ISD released in a statement.
