Jenkins said this will be paid for by the state.
Hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall Wednesday evening.
“Not everyone who is fleeing the storm will need government aids…some will be staying with family or paying fort their own hotels but for those who need it, the hotel rooms will be available free of charge,” said Jenkins.
He said individual hotel rooms are safer than group shelters because families will stay together in that room.
“We aren’t doing group shelters because of Covid-19 concerns and all evacuees will have a temperature check and be tested as they arrive,” said Jenkins.
Jenkins said they’re expecting evacuees to come in buses as early as Tuesday.
