Dallas ISD Athletes Rally Outside District’s Admin Building, Urging Superintendent to Allow Fall Sports

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- A group of Dallas ISD athletes gathered outside the districts administration building demanding to play fall sports.

This comes after the district’s recent change of plans for the upcoming school year amid COVID-19.

“Our opportunity counts, the exposure that we need counts some people need sports just to go to college,” said student athlete Jaylen Ricker.

The start of in person instruction was delayed until at least October. Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said it wouldn’t be right to let some students into campus for practice and not for classes.

“We are seniors and it might be the last year for people to play sports period so I think we need that chance to play,” said DISD Senior Darcy Walton.

Students are urging Hinojosa to let them have practice at least by next week.
