Patrick Backs President’s Plan to Get Workers Back on the Job

(WBAP/KLIF) — Lawmakers in Washington are at odds over the amount of added federal unemployment benefits.  President Trump recently signed an executive order providing a $400 unemployment bonus.

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick explained that unemployed Texans receive between $250 and $300 in state unemployment benefits.  That, added to the $600 Coronavirus Relief Unemployment bonus gave residents $900 a month.

Patrick says many business owners could not afford to pay workers a thousand dollars a week to return to work. Patrick believes President Trump’S $400 benefit he recently awarded with an executive order is much more reasonable.

The original stimulus package in march provided $600 in unemployment benefits, resulting in many workers staying home instead of returning to the job.  Patrick says that’s because there was no incentive for Texans to return to work due to making more while staying unemployed.
