Denton City Council Extends Order Regarding Face Coverings

DENTON (WBAP/KLIF)- The Denton City Council voted to extend the order regarding face coverings until August 31st.

Ryan Adams with the City of Denton says the order was set to expire August 4th and city council thought it was best to extend the order to ensure the health and safety of residents.

“This is a complement to the state order but the state order targets individuals, this local order targets businesses and non-profits,” he said.

The order requires the Health Policy to be posted at or near all entrances of any commercial or nonprofit business in the City of Denton in clear view for anyone entering.

The Order additionally incorporated the state requirement that outdoor gatherings in excess of 10 people are prohibited unless specifically authorized by the mayor, or otherwise permitted by a subsequent state order.

“Our main priority has been outreach, focusing heavily on educating the businesses about the importance of this,” said Adams. “I think everyone in the city would agree that we really don’t want to issue any citations and warnings if we don’t have to,” he said.

Requirements under the Order regarding face coverings, resources and and additional information for businesses are available online at www.cityofdenton.com/facecoverings.
