(WBAP/KLIF) — The feud between Mckinney Mayor George Fuller and outspoken councilman La’shadion Shemwell reignited this week. Tempers boiled over during a recent council meeting when the mayor moved to have an 11-member committee review the statue removal of James Webb Throckmorton, who was a confederate general.
According to Fuller, Shemwell disrupted the city meeting and based on the presence of Shemwell supporters armed with AR-15 rifles outside the city chambers, he says he ended the meeting for safety reasons.
Shemwell argued that Fuller’s call for the community council to review the removal of the statue would take too long, and then attacked the mayor’s integrity and motives.
Citizen tempers escalated within the meeting, which Fuller cites as the reason he ended the meeting early. According to the WFAA, Shemwell faces a recall election later this year in November.
