WASHINGTON D.C. (WBAP/KLIF News) – The National Association of Police Organizations has officially endorsed President Trump’s re-election campaign.
In a statement, NAPO President Michael McHale said the endorsement recognizes Trump’s “steadfast and very public support for our men and women on the front lines during this time of unfair and inaccurate opprobrium being directed by our members by so many.”
The endorsement comes on the heels of nationwide protests against police brutality sparked by the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.
Fort Worth Police Association President Manny Ramirez he’s not surprised by the endorsement.
“It’s logical given the fact that President Trump is such a law and order president and police supporter,” he said.
Ramirez said he was a part of the decision.
“I was actually on the endorsement interview with President Trump and we asked him some very pointed questions about what his stance is on public safety, what his stance is on law and order going forward and what he sees criminal justice going forward looking like and his answers are exactly what we would want,” he said.
NAPO represents over 1,000 police units and over 241,000 police officers nationwide.
The organization has endorsed former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden’s ticket twice.
