JC Penney Eliminates 1,000 Jobs

(WBAP/KLIF) — One national retailer will hand out pink slips to around a thousand of its employees.  JC Penney is cutting about 1,000 jobs after the effects of COVID-19.

The retailer said Wednesday the eliminated jobs will include corporate, field management and international positions.  The Plano-based company filed for bankruptcy protection in May and plans to permanently close a third of its nearly 850 stores in the next two years.

After the closing of the 152 stores, the reorganization would leave JC penney with 600 locations.  Texas stores pegged for closure include locations in Lewisville, Paris, Palestine, Huntsville, Greenville, and Timber Creek Crossing in Dallas.

Corporate management made the reorganization move in an effort to emerge from chapter 11 bankruptcy.
