(WBAP/KLIF) — It appears Republican John Cornyn will face Democratic challenger Mary “M.J.” Hegar. In a close race for the Texas Democratic nomination for senator, Hegar is confident she’s the winner.

Despite all ballots being counted, Hegar maintained 52% of the votes throughout the night, compared to West’s 48%. West declined to concede Tuesday night, despite trailing Hegar by almost 38-thousand votes.
In an unprecedented election, around a million voters cast ballots in the run-off election for the Democratic senate nomination. Candidates were forced to campaign virtually due to COVID-19 and had the run-off election delayed nearly two months.
Hegar accepted the party’s nomination in a social media post and is aiming at the senate seat held by Republican John Cornyn in the General Election this November.
