FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- NASCAR returns to Texas this weekend amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the recent surge in cases, Texas Motor Speedway will be opening the track to race fans at 50% capacity. President of the speedway Eddie Gossage told WFAA-tv the track is big enough to allow fans to attend safely.
“We’re outdoors and it’s a very very big venue you can fit four and a half footprints of the cowboys stadium in our infield,” said Gossage.
He also says the nature of the sport makes it safe for both fans and racers.
“Our sport just lends itself to be able to do this while other sports football and hockey and basketball may have some problems because of physical body to body contact.”
The track has taken multiple precautions including spacing out seating, posting over 10,000 sign encouraging social distancing, and requiring all attendees over the age of 10 to wear a face mask.
