Dallas ISD Superintended Wants Start of School Pushed Back

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- As the fall school semester approaches some parents and students are wondering how school will work amid COVID-19.

Dallas ISD is scheduled to start August 17th but Superintendent Michael Hinojosa told WFAA-TV he would like push that date back to after Labor Day in order to better prepare for in-person or online classes.

Regardless of the start date, the district will be allowing parents to choose between online or in-person instruction.

“It’s gonna be parents choice we’re gonna offer both options and we think we can deliver on both options if a parent does not feel comfortable and now 50 percent of the parents tell us they don’t feel comfortable bringing their student to class and other do because they need to go to work,” said Dr. Hinojosa.

The district will be enforcing multiple precautions for those who choose in-person classes. Including face mask and face shield requirements, temperature checks, installing Plexiglas dividers, and enforcing social distancing.

“If a parent wants to come to school and they don’t have a mask we’re gonna give them a mask,” said Dr. Hinojosa.
