FDA Adds to List of Toxic Hand Sanitizers Due to Methanol Risk, Issues Nationwide Recall

White Oak, MD  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Food and Drug Administration has added more brands to its list of recalled hand sanitizer products that may contain methanol.

Two weeks ago, the FDA warned Americans to stop using nine hand sanitizer products over potential presence of the substance, also known as wood alcohol.

The agency issued a statement Monday that said ITECH 361 is voluntarily recalling 18,940 bottles of All Clean Hand Sanitizer, Moisturizer and Disinfectant sold in one liter bottles to the consumer level.

The products have the UPC Code 628055370130 and is sold to wholesalers nationwide.

ITECH 361 said it has notified retailers and are arranging for return/replacement or refund for all recalled products.

The FDA said to date, ITECH 361 had not received reports of adverse events related to this recall.

The agency warns that “substantial methanol exposure” can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred visions, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.

It can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested.

The FDA said young children who accidentally ingest methanol or the elderly who may drink it as an alcohol substitute are most at risk.

One  June 19th, the FDA has announced that these hand sanitizer products made by Esk Biochem Sa de CV in Mexico had also been recalled.

  • The Good Gel Antibacterial Gel Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-010-10)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-005-03)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 75% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-009-01)
  • CleanCare NoGerm Advanced Hand Sanitizer 80% Alcohol (NDC: 74589-003-01)
  • Saniderm Advanced Hand Sanitizer (NDC: 74589-001-01)

These recalls come at a time when Americans are using more hand sanitizer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
