Heat Sends 67 North Texans to the Hospital

(WBAP/KLIF) — As the Metroplex heads into the hottest week of the year, health officials are warning residents to stay safe.  With hot temperatures in North Texas, Medstar crews are seeing a spike in heat related illnesses.

Over the past month, Medstar has responded to 104 calls for residents suffering from heat related illnesses, with 67 of them requiring hospitalization.  Medstar’s Zatt Zavadsky says there were a total of 16 heat related calls, Wednesday, with 10 transported to area hospitals and one in critical condition. Zavadsky says staying hydrated is key to keeping safe in the Texas heat.

In June, Medstar responded to 88 calls for heat related illnesses with 57 taken to the hospital, 6 of those critical.  Zavadsky gives keys to beating the heat, such as wearing light, loose clothing and drinking a lot of water.
