COVID-19 Testing of All Staff & Residents at Texas Nursing Homes, Nearly 1800 Tested So Far

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is working with area fire chiefs to provide COVID-19 testing for area nursing homes.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered all staff members and residents at Texas nursing homes to be tested for COVID-19. The state’s emergency management division in collaboration with area fire chiefs, created a joint task force to provide regional testing for nursing homes in Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, and Rockwall counties.

Test were conducted at four additional nursing homes on Sunday, bringing the total to 11 facilities, and nearly 1800 residents and staff tested. In a press release, City of Dallas Public Information Officer Jason Evans said “Operations will take a temporary pause for the Memorial Day holiday; but personnel will be on standby for any unscheduled assignments.” Testing at area nursing homes will resume on Tuesday, May 26th.

According to a press release, local agencies represented on the task force include Dallas Fire-Rescue, Cedar Hill Fire Department, Plano Fire Rescue Department, Red Oak Fire Department, Desoto Fire Rescue Department, Ovilla Fire Department, Lewisville Fire Department, Corsicana Fire Department, Ennis Fire Department, Frisco Fire Department, Garland Fire Department, McKinney Fire Department, Richardson Fire Department, Sachse Fire Department as well as the Garland Office of Emergency Management.
