DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The State of Texas began its phased reopening on Friday, as coronavirus restrictions are slowly being lifted. But it wasn’t a mad dash to stores and restaurants.
Retailers, movie theaters, restaurants, and museums all had the ability to open Friday at 25% percent capacity, under a new Executive Order from Governor Greg Abbott. The state’s version of a stay at home order expired Thursday. Salons, gyms, and bars are still closed.
Some restaurant goers said they appreciate Governor Abbott’s decision to “ease” into the state’s reopening and were glad to eat a meal outside of their home.
“It’s nice just to be back around people,” a Dallas man said while eating at a local cafe. “I’m ready to get back to a normal life.”
Many businesses that are able to open are staying closed for at least a little while longer while new protocols for social distancing and hygiene are put in place. Some business owners said they weren’t open because they don’t believe it’s profitable to open at just 25% occupancy.
While many North Texans are relieved to have the ability to eat out or frequent their local retailer, many are opting to wait longer to do so.
