WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – As COVID-19 cases continue to climb in the U.S., the federal government’s social distancing guidelines are soon to expire, and President Donald Trump says he’s not extending them; that, as Trump’s adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is predicting that the country will be “really rocking again” by July.

Adding to their optimistic view of the coronavirus outbreak, the president is planning his first long trip in weeks with a visit next week to Arizona.

Yet the number of reported coronavirus infections and the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 continue to rise.

The latest numbers from the CDC show U.S. cases at over the 1-million mark at, 1,064,572; 61,669 people have died; 147,411 people have recovered.

The White House’s “30 Days to Slow the Spread” guidelines expire today (Thursday).

Meantime, Scientists on Wednesday announced the first effective treatment against the coronavirus _ an experimental drug that can speed the recovery of COVID-19 patients _ in a major medical advance that came as the economic gloom caused by the scourge deepened in the U.S. and Europe.

The U.S. government said it is working to make the antiviral medication remdesivir available to patients as quickly as possible. “What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious-disease expert.
