According to the Federal Trade Commission, Resurgence Medical Spa LLC. claimed through social media posts that it’s Vitamin C infusions can prevent and cure the deadly virus.
The company’s spokesperson Kelly Wooley denied the accusation.
“We never claimed to prevent or cure COVID-19. We were very careful to use words like may, could, help,” she said.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton joined forces with the FTC and said the claims are a direct violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and federal consumer protection law.
“As communities work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure that those suffering receive potentially life-saving treatment they need, my office is working diligently to stop deceptive claims and false cures,” Attorney General Paxton. “I will not allow anyone or any business to take advantage of Texans during this national health crisis.”
Texans can file complaints against companies who engage in deceptive trade practices can call the Attorney General’s toll-free complaint line at (800) 621-0508 or file a complaint online here.
The FTC sent letters to Resurgence and nine other companies nationwide this week demanding they stop making the claims.
Resurgence said it has complied.
