Tarrant County Judge Glenn Whitley Issues Stronger Command Regarding In-Person Church Services

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – Easter is approaching and many North Texans are wondering how they’ll worship but Tarrant County residents recently got their answer from Judge Glen Whitley.

In-person church services are banned right now because of the high risk of coronavirus spread.

Tarrant County Judge Glenn Whitely posted a video Wednesday with the caption “Church services stay home”. He acknowledged the significance of the next two or three weeks for every religion.

“This is a time when we find our churches, our mosques, our synagogues, they’d be packed. This would be the worst thing possible,” he said.

The video comes at a time when the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Tarrant County. The county’s public health department reports at least 588 coronavirus cases and 20 deaths.

Judge Whitley said the community has to continue to work together to get through this pandemic.

“I know it’s tough but if we’re going to beat this thing, it is so so important that we maintain that social distancing, that we don’t come together in big groups,” he said.

The news comes as a few churches across the country drew national criticism for continuing to hold services, with some cases leading to the spread of COVID-19 and some deaths.

In Houston, a few churches resumed live services for Palm Sunday services.

It’s a situation that continues to polarize people as the coronavirus pandemic rages on.
