Mayor of Dallas says Local, State Communication is Healthy Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Mayor of Dallas clarified on Thursday that he believes accusations among local and state leaders earlier this week surrounded a misunderstanding.

Mayor Eric Johnson said communication between local and state governments is strong amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“There’s a healthy line of communication,” said Mayor Johnson. “Our response has been pretty good. I’m happy with the response that we’ve had.”

Earlier this week Governor Greg Abbott said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins expressed disinterest in opening the federal overflow hospital at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Downtown Dallas while speaking with a representative from the Army Corps of Engineers. The Judge claimed that wasn’t true. Mayor Johnson called it miscommunication.

“I believe everyone thought they were saying what they heard,” Mayor Johnson said.

According to the Mayor, communication between he and the Governor’s Office, as well as the County Judge, is frequent.

The Mayor stressed that the bottom line is that the overflow hospital is staying in Dallas.
