Dallas, Tarrant Counties Report Additional COVID-19 Deaths

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – More than 2,300 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the DFW metroplex with well over 40 deaths, as of Tuesday afternoon.

Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 106 additional positive cases of the virus Tuesday, bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 1,261. The 19th death from COVID-19 in Dallas County from COVID-19 was reported of a Garland man in his 50’s. According to Dallas County, the man was  in his home and had underlying high-risk health conditions. Of cases requiring hospitalization, about 70% have been either over 60 years of age or have had at least one known high-risk chronic health condition. Diabetes has been an underlying high-risk health condition reported in over 29% of all hospitalized patients with the virus.

“Stay the course North Texas,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. “Please keep 6 foot distancing and limit all unnecessary trips this week and next week.”

Tarrant County Public Health reported five COVID-19 virus, on Tuesday.  According to Tarrant County, two of the deceased are from Fort Worth, one is from River Oaks, and one is from Grand Prairie and one from Haltom City.  Two of the patients had underlying health conditions.

Ages of the patients ranged from 47 to 88; all were hospitalized locally.

“It is very unfortunate and disheartening for our community to see the death toll rising from COVID-19” Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said.

Tarrant County has now seen a total of 18 confirmed deaths from the COVID-19 virus.

He strongly urged all residents to strictly follow the Executive Orders issued this past week by County Judge Glen Whitley and engage only in essential activities; stay home as much as possible; and maintain social distancing.

Amid the increase of cases across the metroplex, Dallas city leaders updated available hospital beds and ventilators Tuesday morning.

    • ICU beds occupied: 482
  • Total ventilators: 894
    • Ventilators in use: 322

All Dallas hospitals are required to report resources to the Mayor’s Office daily.
