North Texas Auto Workers Affected by COVID-19 Related Shutdown

Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Some 50,000 auto workers at GM/Arlington will impacted by an nationwide shutdown of auto plants by General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler.

The Big 3 automakers are temporarily closing all of the North American factories due to the continued spread of coronavirus.

The plants will be shut down through at least March 30th to clean facilities and protect their workforce from contracting the virus.

S-M-U Economist Bud Weinstein says he believes the economy will get worse before it gets better, but that it will get better. Weinstein says all of the stimulus being pumped into the economy, it will bounce back by mid-summer.

Across Texas there are over 80 cases and 3 deaths as of Wednesday afternoon, including 67 cases in North Texas, including two fatalities.

Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson and Tarrant counties are impacted.

Nationally, there are over 9400 infections and 155 deaths in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands.
