TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF)- Tarrant County has followed suit with Dallas county, prohibiting all dine in restaurants, gyms, entertainment venues and bars to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The county has ordered a reduction in the number of people at gatherings to either 50% occupancy or 125. However, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price is taking it further, reducing the number to no more than 50 people.
Price said this should be a regional approach to stop the spread because many people travel in and out of counties in DFW. “These are not suggestions, these are mandatory,” said Price. “Don’t be in common areas and we strongly suggest even private gatherings to not be more than 50 people,” she said.
She said the occupancy limit does not apply to grocery stores, government facilities or homeless shelters but is strongly encouraging everyone to be mindful and practice social distancing.
These tighter restrictions come a day after an Arlington retirement center resident died from COVID-19.
“We will get through this and be stronger than we were before but lets continue the collaborative spirit Tarrant County has set and let’s beat this,” said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams.
Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley said they are strongly enforcing these restrictions and they are mandatory. “If we have to enforce it through fines we will, but thus far when we’ve asked folks to comply they have,” said Whitley.
As of Tuesday, there are 9 confirmed cases in the county and 1 death.
