Washington officials, lawmakers and others have traded the ‘elbow bump‘ for the traditional hand shake to greet each other. Others are doing the classic Vulcan salute from Star Trek as a non-contact greeting.
As a number of Capitol Hill lawmakers deciding to self-quarantine after coming in contact with infected people, there has also been a marked decrease in handshaking.
From Vice President Mike Pence to federal public health officials to TV hosts, big city mayors and athletes young and old, many folks are doing the elbow bump.

According to US Surgeon General Jerome Adams (pictured right), “We’re encouraging communities to think about the steps they can take to limit spread within communities to mitigate the effects of the virus. We should probably rethink the handshake for a while.
