(WBAP/KLIF) — Darius Tarver was on the deans list at the university of North Texas set to graduate in May. However, a tragic night in January found the 23 year old shot dead by police.
Denton Police Chief Frank Dixon says officers tried to end the incident peacefully. The student had attacked police with a meat cleaver, smashed apartment complex lights, and threatened his roommate.
After escaping his barricaded apartment, his roommate ran away and called 911. Police described Tarver as reacting like someone under the influence, when they were forced to shoot him.
