(WBAP/KLIF) – The Democratic primary election for U.S. Senate in Texas is headed to a runoff.
Air Force Veteran M.J. Hegar had the highest percentage of votes but no one in the crowded field of candidates reached a majority. Hegar told a crowd of supporters Tuesday night that she’s poised for a runoff and ultimately a race with Republican Senator John Cornyn. She had a message for Cornyn during her speech.
“You’re time is done because you’ve sold us out,” Hegar said. “We’ve given you plenty of time and it’s over. You’re fired. Pack it up buttercup.”
State Senator Royce West and Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez were neck and neck late Tuesday night.
The runoff is set for May 26.
