(WBAP/KLIF) — Prosecutors allege 69 additional people might have been falsely convicted based on bogus evidence from an ex-Houston police officer.
The announcement came, Wednesday, after judges declared two previously jailed brothers innocent, after being convicted based on testimony from Gerald Goines. Many of the ex-officer’s cases are now under review.
Goines’ work has come under scrutiny following a deadly drug raid in January of 2019. Goines’ attorney argues that the announcement is a ploy to “poison” potential jurors in his client’s case and aid district attorney Kim Ogg’s election campaign.
