Texas Secretary of State Rolls Out Voter Education Campaign as Early Voting Surges

Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Early voting continues in record numbers across Texas, in counties with the highest voter registrations.

On day five of early voting Saturday, stats show that over 322,000 Texans had already cast ballots.

Early turnout is high in both Democratic and Republican primaries, with Democrats outpacing republicans by over 42-thousand.

Voting continues to be strong in Dallas, Denton, Collin and Tarrant counties. early voting ends Friday.

Meantime, the Texas Secretary of State has rolled out a voter education program aimed at ensuring Texas voters are informed, prepared and ready for Election Day.

Awareness events will be held statewide for the initiative dubbed “Ready. Check. Vote,” at which voters will be educated on the seven approved forms of photo ID, and what to do if they don’t have, and cannot get one.

The Texas legislature last year appropriated funding for the initiative.

The seven forms of approved photo ID are:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)**
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
  • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States Passport (book or card)
