MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The capital murder trial for the man accused of shooting and killing veteran Richardson Police Officer David Sherrard began Monday morning.
Brandon McCall is accused of killing both Sherrard and his then roommate Rene Gamez II.
Prosecutors said on February 7, 2018, McCall first shot and killed Gamez inside the apartment and then killed Sherrard who had responded to the shots fired call.
Officers on the scene described the situation as an ambush.
McCall was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff with police.
It’s Collin County’s first murder trial in a decade.
McCall faces two murder counts and an aggravated assault on a public servant charge for allegedly shooting at officers on scene.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
