City of Richardson Hopes to Boost Economy Through Music, Partners with Texas Music Office

RICHARDSON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of Richardson is hoping to boost its economy through a vehicle that brings different types of people together…music.

The Texas Music Office will host a community workshop with the city this week to discuss receiving a Music Friendly Designation.

“We have 10 communities in Texas right now and we’re shooting for 20 by the end of 2020,” said Brendan Anthony, Director of the statewide program.

Anthony said the office has a track record of helping musically-inclined entrepreneurs and pumped more than $23 million into the state last year.

“We work to shore up small business in the state in a number of ways. We advocate in the federal and state house and work to create business opportunities for creators of intellectual property,” he said.

With support from the Texas Music Office, the music industry in the Lone Star State created more than 200,000 jobs last year.

A community meeting is set for Thursday night at Six Springs Tavern at 147 N Plano Road.

Fort Worth and Denton have already received a Music Friendly Designation.
