Dallas Couple Sues City over Approved Reverchon Park Project

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A lawsuit filed Friday in Dallas seeks to throw out a City Council vote over approved renovations at Reverchon Park.

The Dallas City Council voted to approve a proposal to allow private investors to convert the Reverchon Park baseball field into a concert venue and stadium. It’s a $10 million project. But attorney Tom Whelan said Friday that the city didn’t follow the legal process.

“The city was required to provide and publish notice and to hold hearings,” Whalen said. “But it didn’t.”

Charlotte and Robert Barner

Whalen represents Charlotte and Robert Barner, who live near the park.

“This is our forever home,” said Robert Barner. “We said this is the home where we want to stay because it is unique of any place we’ve seen in Dallas.”

Complaints from Barner and other members of “Neighbors United to Save Reverchon” include what the stadium would mean for parking and noise in the area.

The lawsuit aims to nullify the councils vote.

“[The city] needs to start the process over,” said Whelan. “Conduct the hearings, do the studies. Do what a thoughtful city responsible for the stewardship of its precious park assets should do.”

The proposed venue in the park that has existed for more than a century could include 3,500-seats, a minor league baseball field, and live concerts.
