WASHINGTON D.C. (WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ted Cruz each voted against the impeachment of President Trump Wednesday.
The impeachment trial is officially over,” said Senator Cornyn in a tweet. “I voted to acquit [the President] because Presidents are meant to be chosen by elections, not impeachments – especially with a partisan impeachment that does not meet the high bar of high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Cornyn said the trial was transparent, impartial, and fair.
“Senators heard video testimony from 13 different witnesses, over 190 videos, and more than 28,000 pages of documents and evidence,” said Cornyn. “Now it’s time to get back to work for Texans.”
Senator Cruz also took to social media after the vote.
“Today on behalf of 28 million Texans & all Americans, I voted to defend the Constitution, reject Democrats’ sham and acquit [the President],” Cruz said.
He added that after more than four months, the “partisan impeachment is over.”
