GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Grand Prairie Police Department has memorialized a fallen officer who was killed in the line of duty last year.
38-year-old Officer AJ Casteneda was killed last June when he was hit by another car while running radar on the George Bush Turnpike.
Now the department has named an academy classroom after him as a way to remember his ultimate sacrifice and inspire other officers.
During a dedication ceremony earlier this month, Officer Casteneda’s father said he was touched by the gesture.
“I thought it was great for them to do something like that especially since they keep going and going every time they get a chance to honor him they do it. I am really proud of that,” said Albert Castaneda Sr.
