(WBAP/KLIF) — PLANO, TX — Plano based J.C. Penney is closing six of its retail stores by the end of April. The department store chain cited an operational review as the reason for the decision.
The stores affected are located in Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, and New York, as well as a call center in Kansas.
This comes after the closure of 18 stores this time last year. J.C. Penney has two distribution centers at Fort Worth’s Alliance Development and in Cedar Hill. Both are unaffected.
Other retailers that may follow suit this year include Macy’s, who plans to shut down 28 stores, while Fort Worth-based Pier 1 may close 450 stores.
