FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – American Airlines announced Tuesday that it is canceling more flights as the Boeing 737 Max aircraft remains grounded. The planes were grounded last year after two deadly crashes overseas.
The airline removed the Boeing 737 Max from its schedule for two more months and canceling nearly 20,000 flights through early June.
American Airlines released the following statement:
American Airlines remains in continuous contact with the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Transportation and Boeing. Based on the latest guidance, the airline anticipates that the resumption of scheduled commercial service on American’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will occur June 4, 2020. Once the aircraft is certified, American will run flights for American team members and invited guests.
The groundings have proved costly. American Airlines estimates that last year, the grounding cost it $540 million-dollars in pretax income.
