Dallas-Based Dairy Company Borden Files for Bankruptcy Protection

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The producer of a popular staple that once could be found in most American refrigerators is in financial trouble.

Dallas-based Borden Dairy has filed for bankruptcy protection.

It’s the second major dairy based in Dallas to do so in recent months.

Dallas-based Dean Foods, the country’s largest milk producer, filed for bankruptcy protection in November.

Industry analysts cite an increase in milk substitutes such as and soy milk taking the once popular drink’s place in the American diet.

Borden announced it will continue operations while restructuring its finances under court supervision.

The company was founded in 1857.
