McKinney WBAP/KLIF – A Citizens group in McKinney today filed a petition to recall district one Councilman La’Shadion Shemwell. The document contains more than 3,000 signatures. The City Secretary has five days to certify the petition.
If certified, Shemwell has five days to resign from the city council or submit to a new election that would be held in May.
Today’s filing is the latest event in a controversy that, according to Mayor George Fuller who also signed the petition, has damaged the city’s image and done tremendous harm to the north Texas community.
Shemwell says the the recall effort is rooted in racism. A charge petition organizers vehemently deny.
