Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The flu season is off to a fast start this time around. A second death has been recorded in the Metroplex and local public health officials are concerned.

The Center for Disease Control says 2.6 million cases have been reported so far this year with 23 thousand requiring hospitalization and 13 hundred deaths nationwide.

The dominant flu virus currently around the nation is the B/Victoria strain that usually doesn’t appear until the end of the flu season. The B virus can infect anyone but primarily children and young adults.

However, it’s impossible to say if the arrival of the B virus signals an early end to the flu season.
