Cornyn Previews Possible Senate Impeachment Trial

Senator John Cornyn

(WBAP/KLIF) – Some United States senators are giving a preview of what to expect in a possible upcoming impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate.

Senator John Cornyn says there is one thing that might appear different to those not knowing what to expect.

“One of the most abnormal aspects of this whole process is senators being jurors cannot ask oral questions and we have to sit there and listen to this presentation,” Cornyn said during a Wednesday conference call with reporters.

Cornyn said senators are permitted to submit written questions to the parties involved and the Chief Justice who could send them to the parties.

“We will sit there quietly and listen to the evidence and then be in the position of having to vote after all the evidence is closed and the final arguments are made,” Cornyn said.

The House Judiciary Committee is considering two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. One, abuse of power and the other, obstruction of Congress.

If the House votes to impeach, the Senate would likely hold a trial at the beginning of the upcoming year.
